Iguana chunks. I'd rather go hungry than eat a can of that... Stuff. And I wasn't the one who ate all of the Fancy Lads. You might want to investigate that, ghoul.
[ Danse looks at the last can of food he was able to pull from the cabinet in one of the shelters. ]
[ Danse looks at Nora with a guilty look on his face, and he wonders how to break it to her as to why most of those who have been in the Wastelands tend not to eat the stuff unless they're truly desperate. ]
There's a bit of story behind these, and eh, unless you can't find anything else out there to eat, you won't eat it. Unless maybe you're a Super Mutant. [ He looks over towards his hunting rifle, and he nods his head. ] Why don't we see if we can find some rad stags instead?
[ Realisation quickly sinks in. Oh. Oh. It's a good job she's developed a strong stomach since thawing out because... that's... ew. It doesn't stop the look of horror on her face though.
She felt bad enough when she thought she was eating actual iguana meat. It now makes sense why she hasn't actually seen any real life iguanas roaming the Commonwealth - or their irradiated mutated cousins. ]
I guess stag would be good. What I really fancy right now [ Aside from Danse - oh ho ho, there's always time for bad humour. ] ... is chicken. Beer braised chicken thighs.
[ Danse pulls out a warm Nuka Cola, and he hands it over to Nora. It was the last one, and he felt like she ought to have it. And he wanders over to get his rifle, he picks it up and a box of ammo. He opts to just wear a leather jacket over using his power armor, as he isn't expecting a hunting trip into the woods around Sanctuary to bring them trouble. ]
I don't think I've seen a chicken in The Commonwealth ever since I arrived here. You? [ Danse slings the rifle over his shoulder, and he steps down from the wooden step to the ground below his feet. ]
Then again there's lots of things that are different here than in The Capital Wastelands. For starters, I don't see swarms of mutated ants everywhere.
[ Nora accepts the bottle with a soft smile. She cracks the bottle top off, saving it for later, and takes a swig. She wishes it was ice cold but they're in no position to be fussy right now. Next time she finds a crate full of Nuka Cola she's giving it to Buddy to chill for them. She holds out the bottle to Danse, prepared to share the cola-y goodness. ]
There are chickens up in Far Habor. Next time I'm up there I might see if I can't bring some live ones back to Sanctuary.
And if you really want to see some oversized ants you should head over to Nuka-World. I'm actually glad we don't run into that many ants. They're gross. I think I'd sooner face a Deathclaw.
[ Danse waves the offering from Nora. In his mind he feels like she needs it more than he does, she is in charge of this little outfit, and he is the good little soldier. And that makes Danse more than happy.
His eyes widen when he hears chickens exist somewhere near by. ] Really? This is as far north as I've traveled. The Capital Wastelands and well here pretty much are the only places I've been.
[ He thinks back to the gigantic ants, and he cringes. ] They were disgusting back there also. My guess is this Nuka World is somewhere between here and there. Unless I'm missing something.
[ One day Nora will make Danse see that he is so much more than just a good little soldier. He's also one of her best friends. He deserves Nuka-Cola just as much as she does. ]
Next time I head north you should come with me. There's some interesting places up there. Fog and monsters that want to kill you, but what else is new, right?
We could even go fishing. You said you wanted to go, right? There's bodies of water with live fish in.
[ Being a soldier is something that gives Danse purpose in his life. And with his life having been tossed right on its head, following the orders of someone gives him some form of purpose. ]
Are these regular fish, or have then been mutated just like everything else has been since the war? But either way, yeah, I'd like to go up there just to see it for myself.
[ And he then begins to take the lead to show Nora where he saw the herd of rad stags. ]
I never asked what the fog up there did to people.
Well~ there's plenty of mutated aquatic life up there - anglers, gulpers, hermit crabs. There's even mention of ghoul whales but I haven't seen one personally - just whale bones alone the shores. But there are plenty of regular fish too. Probably highly irradiated but then most things are these days. If they're cooked well I can't imagine them being any more irradiated than the other meats we cook.
[ Nora follows, Righteous Authority in hand - she's carried it proudly ever since he gave it to her. It's her pride and joy. ]
For the most part the fog's fine - irradiated, like a mild rad storm. Fine in power armor or well stocked up on Rad-X. There are stories of people getting lost in the fog and going crazy though.
[ Danse figures the creatures up there were radiated and mutated just like everything else. And while he normally would carry a laser weapon, Danse doesn't want to run the risk of turning dinner into a pile of ash. ]
But I have no intention of wandering off, or going to a place like that without my power armor. So where else have you been outside of the Commonwealth?
About as lovely as everywhere else. Nuclear Annihilation - does wonders for the ambience of a place, I find.
[ Nora also has her 10mm pistol with her. She has other weapons she likes to carry when she's in power armor but doesn't like to weigh herself down too much when she's without. ]
Far Harbor, Nuka-World, and the Commonwealth are the only places I've visited since the bombs fell. Back before the Great War, Nate and I would go visit places when we had time though. I imagine these days it's all pretty similar.

long time no see. :)

<3 hey stranger
Have I ever poisoned you yet?
I suppose we can pick off from that psl of ours. :)

I know you wanted to enjoy that, but I believe you were about to eat one that was rabid.

I'm living a little just fine without eating this slop.
