Miss Durant, then. What is it that brings you to our fair corner of the world?

If I may be a little rude and answer a question with a question... Have you heard of my family before?

I'm afraid I haven't. Not entirely. I knew you were on the schedule to come for a visit.

Your new responsibilities are probably why I was sent here… This might sound strange to you, so bear with me.

[She straightens her back and takes a deep breath.] My family is part of a long line of lineaged mages. That is, we can cast magic and through generations we have come to be exceptionally proficient. We study magical and paranormal subjects, and we have a number of experts on such topics in our family.

Given all of that, it has become part of our tradition to offer consultations to certain circles in the countries we live in. Today you are the latest to be included in this tradition. If something happens to you and science cannot explain it, you may call upon my family. For a reasonable price, of course.

Magical protection at a price? My lady, I thought we had moved past such things and into the age of learned men and women of science. That is something that I had seen written in an ancestors' notebook, after all. That sorcery and magic were simply things we could not explain away just yet.

[Isidor watches him for a moment, then calmly holds out a palm. With a flick of her wrist a slender flame appeared just above her skin. In another gesture it shaped itself into a ball and changed, slowly, until it was an orb of orange light.]

[Her hand returns to rest on her lap again while the orb hangs mid-air. She smiles politely at Lord Grayson.] Not for everyone.
