Just Grayson. [Harry’s gaze travels up and back down Grayson in a way that might be considered forward—hiding the purpose, which is to get a measure of the other man.]
Ah, you were expecting my father, then? He's currently not here so I have
been handling his affairs. He essentially passed the title down and is
currently having the time of his life sailing around the world.
[He goes back to the door and asks for someone to deliver tea for
two to the study before taking a seat across from her]
It's certainly been a change and something that would require some
adjustment in some areas. Certainly not unwanted. And how have your travels
been, my Lady?
Your new responsibilities are probably why I was sent here… This might sound strange to you, so bear with me.
[She straightens her back and takes a deep breath.] My family is part of a long line of lineaged mages. That is, we can cast magic and through generations we have come to be exceptionally proficient. We study magical and paranormal subjects, and we have a number of experts on such topics in our family.
Given all of that, it has become part of our tradition to offer consultations to certain circles in the countries we live in. Today you are the latest to be included in this tradition. If something happens to you and science cannot explain it, you may call upon my family. For a reasonable price, of course.
Magical protection at a price? My lady, I thought we had moved past such
things and into the age of learned men and women of science. That is
something that I had seen written in an ancestors' notebook, after all.
That sorcery and magic were simply things we could not explain away just
yet.
[Isidor watches him for a moment, then calmly holds out a palm. With a flick of her wrist a slender flame appeared just above her skin. In another gesture it shaped itself into a ball and changed, slowly, until it was an orb of orange light.]
[Her hand returns to rest on her lap again while the orb hangs mid-air. She smiles politely at Lord Grayson.] Not for everyone.

[He gives a charming smile]
Who are you again?
no subject
[Harry returns the charming smile, but with a bit more rakishneas.]
Just Harry.
no subject
Just Harry?
no subject
I don't believe I got yours?
no subject
Just...Grayson, then.
no subject
A pleasure. So what’s happened to the boot?
no subject
Never mind the boot; what is your purpose here?
no subject
no subject
Right.
[He takes in the other man]
Peculiar state of dress, Just Harry.
no subject
[Harry gives a short bow with a flourish.]
no subject
Tell me. What is an enterpriser doing so far away from a coast?
no subject
no subject
I would believe you're a poor enterpriser if you got lost so easily.
no subject
[After all if he’s thought to be terrible at it he probably won’t be arrested for it, right?]

Go on...

[That makes him slightly uneasy. Grayson clears his throat]
She's...my sister?
no subject
Why..? Just... Give her back her boot.

Miss Isidor Durant. I'm here to meet the Lord of Knell Manor.
no subject
Miss Durant, I was expecting you later this week. I expect your travels were well? I am Grayson, Lord of Knell Manor.
no subject
Do excuse me, my Lord. I was led to believe you were... [Her gaze flickers over him and she smiles politely again.] ... older.
no subject
Ah, you were expecting my father, then? He's currently not here so I have been handling his affairs. He essentially passed the title down and is currently having the time of his life sailing around the world.
no subject
Then it is you I would like to speak to. [A beat passes.] If you have the time, of course.
no subject
[He motions toward the study ahead of them]
Please, by all means. We're both lucky that my schedule is free today.
no subject
Usually I'd have called ahead, but I was in the area and my own schedule freed up suddenly so I took a chance.
no subject
[He closes the doors behind them and motions toward the couch]
Please, have a seat. Would you like some tea?
no subject
[She sits, crossing her ankles and folding her hands on her lap while she waits patiently.]
How have you been finding your new role? It must have been quite a change for you.
no subject
[He goes back to the door and asks for someone to deliver tea for two to the study before taking a seat across from her]
It's certainly been a change and something that would require some adjustment in some areas. Certainly not unwanted. And how have your travels been, my Lady?

[He chuckles]
Miss Durant, then. What is it that brings you to our fair corner of the world?
no subject
no subject
I'm afraid I haven't. Not entirely. I knew you were on the schedule to come for a visit.
