I do meet a lot of people in my realm. So yes, I have heard of Brooklyn.
And I wasn't...lost per se. Forgotten, most likely. There are those who
assist and believe in the old ways.
No. I've been in my realm since the fall of Olympus. I mind my own and I do
get some Americans from time to time. They've told me of it before wading
through the Rivers.
Try is the operative word there. No one can save everyone.
[But it still gets him every time he isn't able to.]
I let a German scientist experiment on me to try and fight for my country a long time ago. Since then, the threats have been a lot more far reaching than just conflicts between nations.
Ah, this was Ferryman's idea. Said that it would be easier for me to walk
among mortals this way without having them ask who I was and where I came
from.
[He's surprised at Steve's reaction]
You know of others like gods? Blessed by them, then. Or are they also
creatures of science?
[A nervous hand rubs at the back of Steve's head. It feels different to him, even if the terms used are the same.]
I've fought alongside Thor on several occasions. He's got a mean swing with that hammer of his. Humans thought they were gods for centuries and here I've sat and shared breakfast and the battlefield with him.
Anne, while not entirely used to finding strange men in her back acre, was somehow still unsurprised, "Sounds like a familiar tune. What say I buy you a drink?"
His movements are slow, methodical, but Hades moves, all the same as he
steps towards Anne.
"Coffee would be lovely," he replied, looking around him at the land. He
had taken a new exit out of Hades to see the world once more. "Could you
tell me where I am?"
"Key West, Florida, the United States, which is America." Her brow creased a little, "It's 2017, if that helps any."
Living as long as she had, Anne didn't usually get fussed about that kind of thing, leading the way across the acreage to the large, almost plantation house nearer the beach, "C'mon in then." She said, sliding the screen door open and gesturing to the kitchen beyond.

[He looks at him then at himself. there's still some dirt on Hades and he brushes it off]
Where am I?
no subject
[His snort is humorless all the same.]
Brooklyn. If you can believe that.

[Steve's gotten a lot less uncomforablt edealing with 'gods' since befriending Thor, admittedly.]

[That draws a puzzled expression from Hades]

That's a long time.
[A pause, looking down at himself.]
Greek? I've only been on business, but it's a real nice place.

[He's used to gods walking among mortals; he himself had done it the rare occasion when Ferryman decided to kick him out]

Try to protect the innocent everywhere these days though.
no subject
What sort of soldier is able to protect innocents everywhere? Were you raised by Amazons? Forged by Ares?

[He nods slowly, listening to Steve's words]
Do you regret the path you've walked?
no subject
[He shakes his head.]
I regret choices all the time. But not the big picture. I could never.
no subject
[He smiles at that]
Funny. I hear regrets when people walk with me to the Rivers. Do gods...other gods walk among mortals once more? You seem unsurprised at my presence.
no subject
[Steve's admission is quiet. To be fair the 'gods' he knows dress so much more ostentatiously usually.]
I know people who are something like Gods, though not of your pantheon. You'd be amazed what a person can get used to.

[He gives a shrug and a nod]
I understand how beings like myself and your friend Thor can make things...difficult if you were raised so.
[His stomach growls a little]
Would you like to join me for a meal?

"A drink?"
He turns toward where the voice is coming from. A drink wouldn't do much for him but he nods anyway.

She cocked her head, "Name's Anne, c'mon, got a fresh pot of coffee on, and can throw together something stronger if you need it."
