What's noble about being hacked apart, bleeding out, having bits of you strewn in the dirt? Especially if you only fight for some sense of honor, rather than a real cause. Then you're just dead, and what good is hollow honor to the dead?
I never said there wasn't a cause attached. But there is glory to be found in dying as a warrior, rather than cowering in some hole waiting for it to catch up.

But in this particular instance, yes, a fight to the death can be warranted to delay until the arrival of additional forces
