I do like my pumpkin spice, I won't deny, and Halloween is lots of fun, but it's just... Thanksgiving and the leaves changing and the summer heat leaving and the air feeling so fresh and crisp. [He shrugs.] It's not really any one thing. It's the whole autumn package.
I never celebrated Thanksgiving before, but from what I've seen from the films it looks like a whole lot of family bliss or family chaos. As for the cool and crisp feeling in the air, that is something I can relate to.
[ She looks down at the cup of pumpkin flavored coffee in her hand. ]
You're not the only one, it also means sending your kids off to school if you got any, and time to unwind for eight hours.
[ Gwen wonders why she's talking to a stranger about her daughter. But for once Gwen wants to try being a normal parent who gets to dote on her kid instead of hiding her from the world. ]
She's five. Blimey they grow up so fast don't they? [ She raises an eyebrow, and she starts to look and feel a bit awkward. ] Do you have any kids of your own?
None of my own, but I'm helping my best friend raise his daughter Alice.
[And, like any proud uncle, he whips out his phone and pulls up a picture, in this case of a smiling, chubby little brown-haired toddler with eyes too large and grave to be entirely real.]
[ Gwen starts to look a little awkward at the mention that he doesn't have children. ]
And sorry, if I was a bother. But it seems, like it is one of those things I'm finding myself doing lately. But I'm glad to hear that you're helping your friend... [ She leans forward to take a glance at the picture of the little girl, and her face just lights up. ]
It seems like you have all the reason in the world to enjoy this time of year. Goodness I loved dressing my little girl up for Halloween!
No bother at all. I'm just hanging out killing some time at the moment, and I never mind talking to people.
We're thinking of dressing her as Little Red Riding Hood. Kate suggested giving her a gun or a crossbow, too, but that seemed a little intense to me...
Thank goodness. And you're not the only one who's looking to kill a little time.
[ Gwen smiles at the costume suggestion. ] I like the idea of giving the little one a crossbow. Mine is insisting on going out as a xenomoprh from aliens.
[ She laughs. ] And, no, I don't let her watch those types of movies!
[He laughs and holds up his hands.] I wasn't going to judge. It's less about what you let your kids watch than it is about their ability to differentiate fiction from reality, and that comes to every kid at a different age. It doesn't hurt to know that the world is a dangerous place, but they should know what threats are real and which aren't.
I'll let Kate and Henry know there's another yes vote for the crossbow. Henry would love to make her one, too...
I do my best to tell her that what she sees on television isn't real, as does my charming husband. But sometimes it is a little hard when reality and television start to blur some lines.
Ah, yes. [She half shakes her head and laughs.] It's a wholly different ecosystem but, yes, it is absolutely wonderful on the surface. The crunch of the leaves that comes just before winter is quite lovely.
lol, this is why i use a different browser for each pup
I never liked the holidays until I came to the Sanctuary...
(ooc: :) the only thing sweeter than Magnus and Will is Magnus and James. I adore them *happy sigh* I'm also just going to throw the phrase OT3 out there and them keep right on walking...)
I don't think I can ever thank you enough for everything you've given me. I hope you already know how much it means...
(ooc: I adore her and Nikola, but I'm not quite sure I ship it, per se, as much as I just love to watch them flirting and him driving her up a wall, lol)
I think we've had that conversation before, Will. After everything we have been through-- [She lets out a sigh.] You're still here and that is all the thanks I need.
[He can't help it. It may not be something they do often, but he reaches out and gently takes her hand for a moment, giving it a squeeze before releasing it.]
I suppose not, especially after the latest events.
[She smiles briefly and inclines her head.]
There's too much yet to explore, for one. Maybe one day the surface will be ready to be cooperative but still then, here we are, ready for another adventure.

[He looks a little wistful at the mention of children, but only for a moment.]
I imagine eight hours of freedom must be wonderful.

[ Gwen nods her head, and a smile forms on her face at the idea of her daughter having started school. ]
It is. But I worry about her, and, no, I'm not one of those stay at home mums. I've got a job that to keep me busy.

Not to mention Halloween and Thanksgiving. Or is that one too American for you?
/cough Good practise.
[Her eyebrow arches just a little.]
Holidays are always lovely when you spend them with your friends, so I can't begin to begrudge that.
[OOC: Ah ha! Hello again! I believe I have and yes we ought to do so!]
excuse me while I die over that icon...

She looks so good. :x
We are quite the family, Will, and that, most of all, is what the holidays are about. I'm glad to see that's held through our various storms.
[I do love Helen and James. Almost as much as I ship Nikola and Helen. I might be persuaded to OT3 them... :x]
she always does. hardly surprising in a woman who made BDUs and cargo pants look good ;)
(ooc: I adore her and Nikola, but I'm not quite sure I ship it, per se, as much as I just love to watch them flirting and him driving her up a wall, lol)
Hell yes
*gazes at Amanda pics and sighs happily*
